Chris Haltigan

MARSH RIDGE STUDIO

Chris developed her own personal style while studying with several nationally known artists.  The style reflects her peaceful and contemplative nature.  Her work is moving from ethereal to bolder colors and more abstracted compositions of the local landscapes and scenes which are her signature.  She enjoys painting in both watercolors and pastels.

Chris was raised in Richmond, VA, graduated from Radford University and taught in the Virginia Public Schools for several years. In 1976 she and her family moved to the Outer Banks and opened a retail business. They retired from that in 2003 and now enjoy a more relaxed life on the Outer Banks. Gardening is another of her passions and she is a member of the Dare County Volunteer Master Gardener Association.

The Outer Banks and surrounding areas provide an endless source of excitement and inspiration for her art.  She has also traveled around the country to paint in new locations and study with  her favorite artists.  In recent years she has expanded into pastels which have been well received.  Chris enjoys painting on location and from scenes she finds when kayaking and boating on the sounds.  Capturing the elements of light and her interpretation of a subject are evident in her work.

Chris’s work can be seen at KDH Cooperative Gallery, Greenleaf Gallery in Duck, Yellowhouse Gallery and Dare County Arts Council Gallery in Manteo.
