In 2001, my husband and I sold everything we owned and spent almost five years traveling the US and Mexico in an RV. It was at that time that I discovered the gem stone called Picture Jasper. I love nature, which is why I was attracted to the beautiful mountain, beach and ocean scenes embedded in Picture Jasper. I knew immediately that I wanted to make jewelry from this rare and unusual stone. As a result of this discovery, I spent two winters at the Quartzsite Gem and Mineral Club in Arizona, learning metalsmithing and beading.
In 2006 we settled on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The local college had started a jewelry program just one year prior and I joined as soon as I could. My time at the College of the Albemarle Professional Crafts: Jewelry Program helped me to expand my work and has been a wonderful learning experience.
Most of my jewelry has been influenced by my deep love of nature, whether it be from the Delaware Valley where I grew up, our years on the road or the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina.
