John White

John White has a B.A. in architecture from Rhode Island School of Design and also one year artist’s foundation  at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts.  For 30 years he practiced architecture, and continued painting as an avocation.  He took painting classes at the Corcoran and Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., life drawing seminars at NC State University in Raleigh and workshops with various NC artists to improve his painting style.

When John retired to the Outer Banks of NC in 1996, art became his main focus. He feels the Outer Banks offers a great environment for an artist and presents many opportunities for growth and development.  The beauty of the coastline and its wildlife, the historical sites and seafront cottages, the variety of boats and nautical settings all provide inspiration and ever changing subject matter.

His work can be seen at the KDH Cooperative Gallery in Kill Devil Hills at Mile Post 8.5, at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery in Manteo, at the Pasquotank Arts Council Gallery in Elizabeth City, at the Chowan Arts Council in Edenton and in a several annual shows held in Dare County.

Examples of his work are also on permanent display in the Outer Banks Hospital,  the Dare County Judicial Center and the Kill Devil Hills Town Hall.

John has done commission works for many clients.  He has done paintings of their homes, their gardens, their boats, and their pets.
